Most people that know me well will tell you that I'm spontaneous - impulsive is probably more accurate. Keeping everyone guessing, including myself is well developed skill years in the making. Considered decisions and planning really aren't my forte!
Like the time I went looking for furniture on afulltable.com after buying my first home. I had a plan, well a list of items I needed, and off I went enthusiastically in search of something on which to sit, eat, sleep and work. Five hours later, decidedly less enthusiastic I ticked the last item off the list, shook hands with the Harvey Norman salesman who had that grin and look in his eye that big game fishermen get, and went home to my card table and blow up mattress to await delivery the next day.
The truck arrived on time the next day, and making as much noise as I could to alert the neighbors to all of my shiny new stuff, I signed the manifest and magnanimously offered to help the delivery guys take it inside. We'll be right they said so I duly supervised the unloading while coming to the conclusion that the neighbours didn't give a toss about my shiny new stuff.
That's where it all started to unravel - spontaneity is good as a general rule I suppose but it was fast becoming apparent that spontaneity with a measuring tape is infinitely better. It started well enough, bed in - check, dining chairs in, yay! - but that's where it came to a screaming halt. The dining table and couch simply wouldn't fit through the front door. Perhaps they'll go in around the back I said helpfully and around they trudged with the couch only to find the doorway, which is up a flight of stairs is actually narrower around there.
As I sat on my new couch on the front lawn, waving goodbye to the delivery truck, I discovered that my new neighbors now actually did give a toss. And they seemed to be multiplying. Eventually, with hinges and door frames removed my shiny new stuff finally made their way inside took pride of place in their intended locales.
Lesson learned the hard way, I now am the proud owner of a measuring tape and use it when contemplating purchasing anything larger than a hamster. I also plan! Which brings me to the series of web videos we have completed for our awesome longstanding clients The One Stop Shed Shop. Unlike me - they're all about planning and these short instructional videos and television commercial will help anybody in the market for a new shed.
